Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 9

A book you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving… Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov This is probably the hardest one so far to answer. I don’t typically read books that I don’t think I will like. Just the act of reading is enjoyable! I guess you could say that I didn’t want to like Lolita. The story is obviously repulsive and very much taboo, but the writing is superb. The writing style makes the reader truly feel what the narrator is experiencing and expressing. I can see why it makes so many lists of must read books. Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 8

Most overrated book… The Selection series by Kiera Cass I picked these because they could have been so much better. Too much fluff and not enough substance. The story itself wasn’t bad, but it needed a bit more grit. It was designed to be a dystopian story, but it lacked that sense of urgency that a dystopian story needs. Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 8

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 7

A book that makes you laugh… The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde I love British dry humor, I also love obscure references to literary works. This series provides both along with a bit of sci-fi because the story is set in an alternate universe. If you haven’t read this, what are you waiting for? Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 7

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 6

A book that makes you sad… The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle I just read this book last weekend. I cried most of the way through it. I don’t want to give any spoilers so let’s just say that it made me think about my own life, and how I don’t really have any really close friends that I could turn to for support if something really devastating happened… Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 6

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 5

A book that makes you happy… Okay, this might be my hardest one to answer. You see, I don’t really read books with the goal that they will make me “happy”. Just the act of reading makes me happy, otherwise I wouldn’t do so much of it! I guess if I had to choose one, I’d have to say: The Poetry of Robert Frost …two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference… Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 5

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 4

Favorite book in your favorite series… So, as stated my favorite series is the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Which one is my favorite though? That’s a hard one to answer. If I had to choose, it would probably be a tie between the first book, Outlander and the eighth book, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. Obviously I loved the first book because I went on to read the next ones. If you know the series, you know that these are not exactly light reading. I think the shortest one is something like 1200 pages…. I really liked the … Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 4

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 3

Your favorite series… Hands down the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon I love the historical context and all the detail. (Book 5 has a bit too much detail, as it takes 100 pages or so for one day, but really no complaints.) Yes, I watch the Starz series based on the books, and yes, I love it. The show stays very true to the books. I am anxiously awaiting the next book to come out! Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 3

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 2

A book that you’ve read more than 3 times… The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare Though I don’t actually tend to read books multiple times, there are a few that I could have chosen for today’s book. I could have said Dracula without a hesitation, I could have said American Gods, or Harry Potter… But this book I think, was really the first time I had read something that fell into the historical fiction category. Of course it had sparked my interest because it was about a witch, or so the title claimed. I don’t remember how … Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 2

Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 1

Okay, so I came across this challenge on a Pinterest post. I thought it might be fun and as even if I don’t have time to do much else, I still read a lot. So let’s see if I can keep it up! Day One: Best book you read last year? (I’m going to go with this year since it’s almost over anyway) The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn I’ve read quite a lot of books this year (not as much as last year, but still a great showing) and this one still stands out to me. I … Continue reading Thirty Day Book Challenge: Day 1
